# New Year’s Eve Fireworks in Ostend

Ostend sees in the new year with fireworks over the Groot Strand, the main beach in front of the Kursaal, watched from the Zeedijk promenade. It is a free, open-air tradition that draws thousands onto the seafront on New Year’s Eve, with the sea as a backdrop.

The display is on 31 December 2026. No official time was published when we checked, but coast fireworks are traditionally set off around midnight; check the city’s channels on the day for the exact time and the best place to stand.

One thing to keep in mind: the show depends on the weather. Strong wind can force a postponement — in 2024 Ostend moved its fireworks to early January because of the gusts — so it is worth confirming it is going ahead before you head to the dyke. Dress warmly; the seafront is exposed and cold at night.
