About Brasserie David

Brasserie David is a restaurant on Schippersstraat in the city centre, run by chef David Dewaele and his partner Alexandra Janssens. Dewaele worked as sous-chef at the three-star De Karmeliet before deciding to cook on a smaller scale. The dining room is lit in warm reds, with white tablecloths, dark banquettes and a corner of grey armchairs by the bar. Some older listings still give the former address on Christinastraat.

The menus on its website lean towards fish, shellfish and classic cuts. There is a lunch-only market menu of two or three courses with a fish or meat main, a vegetarian menu that follows the market, a tasting menu and a ‘popular’ menu built around shrimp croquettes and pan-fried sole. The à la carte specialities include turbot, king crab, veal sweetbreads and fillet of beef with pepper sauce or foie gras, and a lobster menu for two or more can be booked in advance.

The restaurant serves lunch from noon to 3pm on Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, with dinner on Friday and Saturday evenings, and is closed on Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday. It is listed as wheelchair accessible and dog friendly, and tables are booked through the online reservation system on its website.

Brasserie David took part in the 2026 edition of Ostendaise: North Sea Food Fest, the free summer food festival on the Zeeheldenplein, with its festival dish, Avocado Fishburger.
