Lizette & Lucien is a soup and lunch bar on Madridstraat, a few minutes’ walk from the Kursaal. It is an initiative of the non-profit Duinhelm vzw and gives young people, adolescents and adults with a disability the chance to work in an ordinary hospitality business, so the place is as much about the people working there as about the food.
The menu is short and built for the middle of the day. There are three soups at €8 and a soup of the day at €9, all served with artisanal bread, plus quiches with a salad, richly filled sandwiches, toasted ‘kroks’ (ham, cheese and pineapple; pesto and feta; or crab with mango chutney) and a tapas board at €18. A sandwich, a quiche and a salad change every month, with a vegetarian option among them, and a soup-plus-main lunch menu runs from €16 to €23. Children under 12 have their own short menu.
It is open for lunch only, Tuesday to Saturday from 10am to 3pm, with the kitchen closing at 2.30pm, and it is closed on Sunday, Monday and public holidays. You can book online through its website, and each table receives a single bill. Visit Oostende lists it as child-friendly and wheelchair accessible, with takeaway and free WiFi.
Lizette & Lucien took part in the 2026 edition of Ostendaise: North Sea Food Fest, the free summer food festival on the Zeeheldenplein, with its festival dish, Squid Bun.
