Atelier D is a fine-dining restaurant on the Kursaal-Westhelling, the Kursaal’s western slope beside the Albert I-promenade, with the North Sea as its view. It is the former Brassi Grand Café: when chef Diego De Baets took over the kitchen the restaurant was renamed Atelier D, still run by Brassi and, according to the Ostendaise festival, in the same setting with a new direction. Photographs on its website show white tablecloths, green velvet chairs and cane-backed screens.
The cooking is classical in outline and carefully finished. The à la carte includes shrimp croquettes, langoustine bisque, sea bass ceviche, a North Sea waterzooi, sole, lobster, vol-au-vent and steak tartare, with foie gras, frogs’ legs with snails and veal sweetbreads for those who want to go further, and crêpes Suzette or a dame blanche to finish. When checked in October 2026, most starters cost €25 to €32 and most main courses €33 to €47, with sole at €62 and lobster at €75. There is a separate wine list and a short list of after-dinner cocktails.
Lunch (noon to 2pm) and dinner (6pm to 11pm) are served on Monday and Friday. On Saturday and Sunday the restaurant is open from noon to 11pm, and it is closed from Tuesday to Thursday. Groups of up to 65 can book set lunch and dinner arrangements, which are requested through the website, and tables can be reserved there too.
Atelier D took part in the 2026 edition of Ostendaise: North Sea Food Fest, the free summer food festival on the Zeeheldenplein, with its festival dish, Pasta Krab.
