About Restaurant North

Restaurant North is a seafood restaurant on the Zeedijk in Mariakerke, west of the city centre, on the corner of Northlaan. It is run by chef-owner Jan Liebrechts and his wife Silke Beirens, who looks after the dining room. The restaurant and its terrace have both been renovated in recent years, and the terrace looks straight out over the beach and the sea.

The menu leans on local, seasonal fish, including lesser-known species, alongside a few meat dishes. Homemade shrimp croquettes appear both as a starter and as a main course with chips and salad, and the Ostend fish soup comes with rouille, with a royale version that adds half a lobster. Other fish mains include pan-fried cod, sole meunière and a catch of the day; for meat there is a bouchée à la reine, steak tartare and Aberdeen Angus steak. When checked in October 2026, most main courses cost €28 to €39.

The kitchen is open from noon to 2pm and from 6pm to 9pm, and the restaurant is closed on Wednesday evening and all day Thursday. Visit Oostende lists parking, wheelchair access and child-friendly facilities, and the restaurant takes bookings by phone or online.

Restaurant North took part in the 2026 edition of Ostendaise: North Sea Food Fest, the free summer food festival on the Zeeheldenplein, with its festival dish, Krokante Langoustine.
