Fijnbakkerij Debusschere is a family bakery and patisserie on Nieuwpoortsesteenweg in Mariakerke, on the western side of Ostend. Frederick Debusschere opened it in January 2000, and the counter still revolves around bread made with flour, sourdough and real butter, patisserie built up in layers, biscuits, ice cream and chocolate sold under the house label Chocolala, which is made with Valrhona chocolate.
At the same address is Rachelerie, a breakfast and brunch room serving coffee, cake and breakfast dishes. Its kitchen serves dishes until 3pm Tuesday to Saturday and until 1pm on Sunday, after which only cakes and sweet things are available. The bakery also makes breakfast boxes for two or for children, which can be ordered in advance.
The shop is closed on Monday, open from 6.30am to 6pm Tuesday to Saturday and from 6am to 5pm on Sunday, with shorter hours (6.30am to 2pm) on public holidays. Rachelerie opens at 8am, closing at 5pm Tuesday to Saturday and at 2pm on Sunday, and tables can be reserved by phone. The bakery posts its holiday closures on its own site, so check there before a special trip.
Fijnbakkerij Debusschere took part in the 2026 edition of Ostendaise: North Sea Food Fest, the free summer food festival on the Zeeheldenplein, with its festival creation, Baba Soleil.
