About this event

Mu.ZEE’s current exhibition is about the statuettes that sat on Belgian mantelpieces and sideboards. Around 100 sculptures, paintings and works on paper trace some 150 years of small-scale sculpture in Belgium, with a core of Art Deco statuettes from the museum’s own collection and works by artists from Constant Permeke and Oscar Jespers to Marthe Donas, Yvonne Serruys and Aline Bouvy.

Running alongside it, Focus: Wim Delvoye shows the Belgian artist’s playful take on craft and objects, including a concrete mixer carved in wood and his action dolls. A participatory salon invites visitors to share stories about the figurines on their own mantelpieces.

The show is in the Venetian Galleries on the promenade, Mu.ZEE’s temporary home while its main building is renovated. Open Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00–17:30; children aged 12 and under go free. It closes on 3 January 2027.
