About this event

Mu.ZEE’s next big exhibition opens in the Venetian Galleries on the promenade on 6 February 2027 and runs for almost a year. DOMINO asks a simple question, who inspires whom, and answers it like a row of falling dominoes: one artist leads to the next, across more than a century of art.

The chain starts with Gustave Courbet’s L’Origine du monde and runs via Randa Maroufi, Jef Geys, Marcel Broodthaers, Édouard Manet, Louise Delanghe and Emma Lambotte to Ostend’s own James Ensor. Along the way you meet René Magritte, Rachel Baes, Jacqueline Mesmaeker, Jan Van Imschoot and others from the museum’s collection of Belgian art, plus loans.

The exhibition also questions how art history gets written: who is remembered, why so many women artists were left out, and how far one Western viewpoint still shapes the story. Open Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00–17:30; children aged 12 and under go free.
