Station quarter

The last Ostend trawler to fish off Iceland, now on dry land by the station, with guided tours of the hard life on board.

About Amandine Trawler Museum

The Amandine is a 36-metre fishing trawler launched in 1962. For more than three decades it fished the waters south of Iceland in summer and the Channel and North Sea in winter. When it came home on 3 April 1995 it was the last Ostend ship to return from the Iceland fishing grounds, closing a chapter that had shaped the town for generations.

In 2000 the ship was lifted out of the water and set on the quay opposite the station, where it now works as a museum. Inside, the ship is furnished as it was at sea, and multimedia scenes tell the story of the fishermen who spent weeks at sea in cold, dangerous conditions. The ship was fully renovated in 2024.

Visits are guided, which brings the place to life, and the story suits older children as well as adults. It is open at weekends only, so plan around that, and combine it with the Mercator sailing ship in the marina a short walk away on a joint ticket.
