A romantic 19th-century park on the old town walls, with ponds, waterfalls, a bandstand from 1885 and a giant flower clock.

About Leopold Park

Leopold Park is the green heart of central Ostend, a five-hectare landscape park laid out from 1860 partly on the line of the old town fortifications. Designed in the English style by Louis Fuchs, it winds around a pond with rockwork and waterfalls, and is now a protected monument.

Look out for the cast-iron bandstand from 1885 and the famous flower clock, a working clock planted in flowers with a face nine metres across and a gilded copper hand four metres long; its bell dates from 1748. Families come for the Chalet Minigolf in the middle of the park, and on a sunny day the benches by the water fill with people taking a break from shopping.

The park is a few minutes’ walk from the Wapenplein and the beach, and makes a pleasant green shortcut between the shopping streets and the Leopold II-laan. Entry is free.
