Sailing school on the sheltered Spuikom lagoon: dinghy courses for children, teens and adults, Optimist training and summer SUP sessions.

About Watersport Oostende Spuikom

The Spuikom is a large, sheltered saltwater lagoon on the east side of Ostend, originally built to flush silt out of the harbour channel and now a water-sports lagoon. Because it is calm and protected from the open sea, it is one of the best places on the coast to learn to sail.

Watersport Oostende Spuikom calls itself the mecca of dinghy sailing on the Belgian coast. It runs sailing courses for children, teenagers and adults, Optimist training for young sailors, and stand-up paddleboard taster sessions in summer. The club is recognised by the Flemish water sports federation and holds its youth label.

Courses run during the sailing season and fill up quickly in the school holidays, so book well ahead through the website. Adult courses are typically held in June and September. It is a good option for families staying a week or more who want the children to try something new.
