Bakkerij Decock is a bakery, patisserie, chocolatier and ice-cream counter on Langestraat in the centre of Ostend. The bakery’s logo dates it to 1855, and today it is led by master baker Luc David. The shop is laid out so that customers walk around the counter past the day’s bread, pastries and chocolates, and large windows look into the bakery workshop and its oven.
Bread is the main attraction: sourdough that ferments for up to 72 hours, loaves made with grains such as wheat, rye, spelt, buckwheat and emmer, and Camp Rémy, a bread made from an organic grain Luc grows with a local farmer. Three workshops sit above the shop, for pastry on the first floor, bread above that and chocolate at the top, so production stays in-house as far as possible. There is freshly made scoop ice cream, made with pasteurised milk from a local milk farmer, and espresso, cappuccino, tea and hot chocolate to enjoy in the shop.
The shop is open from 7.30am to 5pm every day except Thursday, when it is closed. A webshop takes orders around the clock, and a second shop, Oosterbrood, is at Fortstraat 10 on the Oosteroever.
Bakkerij Decock took part in the 2026 edition of Ostendaise: North Sea Food Fest, the free summer food festival on the Zeeheldenplein, with its festival creation, Ostend Beach.
