Bar Foubert is a restaurant on Christinastraat in the city centre, run by chef Stephen Foubert and hostess Anneleen Mares. Inside, wooden tables, green chairs and spotlights lead the eye to an arched opening onto the open kitchen, where turbot is cooked slowly on a Molteni spit; a few bistro tables stand on the pavement outside.
The à la carte leans towards fish and shellfish: Fine de Claire oysters from Saint-Vaast, frog’s legs, grey shrimp, octopus carpaccio, monkfish ‘à l’Ostendaise’, the catch of the day, baby lobster and the turbot for two off the spit, with rib-eye and pan-fried foie gras for those who want meat. At lunch there is a Menu du Midi that recently ran at €42 for an aperitif bite, a starter and a main, with dessert €8 extra, taken by the whole table. The kitchen works with day-fresh produce, warns that the online menu is not always up to date, and can cook vegetarian and vegan dishes if you say so when booking.
Dinner is served from Tuesday to Saturday, 6.30pm to 10.30pm, and lunch from noon on Thursday, Friday and Saturday; it is closed on Sunday and Monday. Book through the form on the website, or call or WhatsApp for a table on the same day. The site shows a Gault&Millau score of 12/20 and lists a first place for best signature dish at Kooktalent 2025, and Visit Oostende lists the restaurant as dog-friendly and child-friendly.
Bar Foubert took part in the 2026 edition of Ostendaise: North Sea Food Fest, the free summer food festival on the Zeeheldenplein, with its festival dish, Nordic Schelvis.
