Family-run oyster farm and seafood bar on the Spuikom: farm oysters, a seafood platter and shellfish tapas at lunch, Monday and Wednesday to Saturday.

De Oesterput is a family-run oyster farm and seafood bar on Schietbaanstraat, beside the Spuikom, the salt-water basin between Ostend and Bredene. It sits about 3 km east of the Kursaal, on the far side of the harbour channel, so it is a short bike ride or drive rather than a stroll from the promenade. The family has farmed oysters here since 1995 and describes itself as the only Belgian oyster farm with the original Royal d’Ostende lineage.
The seafood bar is where you eat. It serves lunch only, until 3pm, on Monday and from Wednesday to Saturday, and the kitchen works à la carte: oysters from the farm, a seafood platter at €45 a head, lobster, shrimp croquettes and smaller portions of shellfish or tapas to share. Oysters, lobster and the platter are always available without ordering ahead. On the farm’s own site, Ostend flat oysters are listed at €1.80 to €2.65 each and a shrimp croquette at €4.50.
Booking is recommended, online through the Seafoodbar site (for up to 20 people) or by phone. The terrace opens in good weather and takes no reservations, which makes it an easy place for a drink and a few oysters. The shop at the same address sells oysters by the crate and other shellfish, and the farm runs oyster tours for groups by reservation.
De Oesterput took part in the 2026 edition of Ostendaise: North Sea Food Fest, the free summer food festival on the Zeeheldenplein, with its festival dish, Ostendaise oesters.
