Mussel restaurant a few minutes’ walk from the Kursaal: mussels in a choice of sauces, prize-winning shrimp croquettes, burgers and fish and chips.

About Mac Moules

Mac Moules is a mussel restaurant on Van Iseghemlaan, a few minutes’ walk from the Kursaal, and its tagline is ‘Mussels and more’. The room is informal, with blue banquettes, wooden tables and an illuminated anchor on a timber-clad wall, and the kitchen adds North Sea fish dishes with a modern twist to the mussels.

Natural mussels with chips cost €28.50, with sauces from white wine and garlic (+€2.50) up to Thai, Indian curry or jambalaya (+€4.50), or ‘à l’Ostendaise’ (+€6.50). Croquettes come two to a portion with salad and chips, shrimp at €26.50, pulled pork or a cheese version marked veggie at €25.50 and a seaweed one marked vegan, and the shrimp croquette won the expert jury prize at the 2025 Garnaalkroketten Festival in Ostend. There are also burgers (€25.50 to €27), fish and chips (€28), a children’s menu and a €79 couples’ deal of a double portion of natural mussels with a bottle of white wine.

Outside the school holidays it is closed on Monday and Tuesday, serves dinner only on Wednesday and Thursday (6pm to 9pm) and opens for lunch (noon to 2pm) and dinner (6pm to 10pm) from Friday to Sunday; in the school holidays it opens seven days a week. You can book through the website. Visit Oostende lists it as dog-friendly, child-friendly and wheelchair accessible.

Mac Moules took part in the 2026 edition of Ostendaise: North Sea Food Fest, the free summer food festival on the Zeeheldenplein, with its festival dish, Garnaalkroket.
