Toope

Toope is a family-run bistro on the Groentemarkt, in Ostend’s city centre. The name is a West Flemish word for “together”, and the Ostendaise festival’s own listing describes an easy-going atmosphere, a warm interior and a passion for local, quality produce.

According to the Meet in Oostende venue guide, Toope serves food all week to all ages: a classic breakfast, lunch and tearoom repertoire, some bolder creations, and a changing list of specials on top of a fixed menu. In fine weather the large terrace is the place to sit. Upstairs, a first-floor multipurpose room holds up to 80 people, which suits group lunches and events. Visit Oostende lists the bistro as suitable for groups and wheelchair accessible.

Visit Oostende gives opening hours of 8am to 6pm every day except Tuesday and Wednesday, so this is a daytime address rather than an evening one. Toope has no working website at the time of writing, so it is worth phoning ahead to confirm hours and the current menu.

Toope took part in the 2026 edition of Ostendaise: North Sea Food Fest, the free summer food festival on the Zeeheldenplein, with its festival dish, Shrimp Brioche.
