Brut

Brut is an eclectic shop on the Van Iseghemlaan that mixes vintage fashion with plants and furniture. It began in 2015 as a plant shop in the flea-market quarter of Brussels and now trades in Ostend, run by stylist and decorator Jacqueline Ezman and blacksmith Hadrien Van Lerberghe, who makes made-to-measure furniture.

On Instagram the shop calls itself a vintage boutique with underground Belgian designers, and its posts focus on vintage menswear and womenswear. Its website adds the green side: tropical and exotic houseplants, succulents, cacti, ferns, palms, carnivorous plants and bonsai, some of them more than 30 years old, plus vintage furniture from the 1950s to the 1980s, plant stands and pots. Brut also delivers and installs plants, rents out plants and furniture and offers plant care.

Pick it if you like your shopping a little theatrical and one-off; it is not the place for a predictable wardrobe staple. It is open Wednesday to Sunday from 11:00 to 19:00.
